Springtime truck stop soda, do you remember the first "I love you?" Take me to your favourite hide out Show me your favourite song Do you remember smelling the flowers with your mother? Sweet, safe, longing for rainbow paddle pops? And she's watching your moves, taking notes on only you.

You're wearing a mask, so baby, how can I see the look on your face when you say such things to me? You're coughing up lies, and you don't know what you could catch, if you're making me sick like this, how are we meant to last? I need a supersonic, ultra-violet, disinfectant blast-- 'cause your sickness makes me sick, and I wanna live! I'm a good boy playing it safe, I tread so carefully. I can see the plague a-spreadin', and baby it's not just you and me. When things don't go your way, that's when I get the glance, and that's when the virus takes a hold, and we don't stand a chance. We need an antidote, we need a cure, we all gotta understand, that the sickness makes me sick, and I wanna live!

Plastic plants will never die, even when the pot runs dry. If only I were Plasticine, then death would be a distant dream. Everything around me crumbles to dust, and so I think before I go to sleep, that there must be a way for everything to stay. Damn it all! This blood and dirt, my heart so fragile--it gets hurt. Everything alive is so vulnerable, but plastic's indestructible! If I forget to feed you, you won't love me very much, but if you were made of plastic, every time that we touch you'd feel the same. A plastic world stays the same-- plastic flowers, plastic food Impervious to wind and rain-- plastic faces, plastic moods Plastic will never leave you, plastic is here to stay. Your pets and friends will turn to dust, but plastic, buddy, you can trust! So pump it into your bloodstream, fill your wrinkles, lift your cheeks. Plastic goes the extra mile to give you a never ending smile, so SMILE!!!!

I don't know where I'm goin' I don't know what I'm doin' I think I gotta get outta this town Gotta pick some fruit and some yoghurt Gotta pick up some bread and some mince I think I gotta get outta this town I gotta get on outta this town Gotta go to K-mart Gotta go and play in the park I think I gotta get outta this town Gotta buy some coffee for my kitchen Gotta sweep the floors and mop I think I gotta get outta this town

about

I ended up spending the early days of the Coronavirus lockdown in Australia and these songs are how my friends and I kept busy. Some were recorded in Blue Haven on Sharn's old 4 track, some were recorded live in Annondale, Sydney (before restrictions) in a practice space that Matt Vaughn booked. Hopefully there's more to come!

credits

released May 15, 2020

The live bits were recorded live onto a ZOOM H4n Pro.
The caravan songs were recorded onto a cassette 4 track with a my ZOOM mic and also with a Playstation SingStar mic.

Thanks to:
Matt Vaughn for providing the cassette tapes and booking the practice space,
Babs for lending me the bass and the pre-amp,
Mick Page for the acoustic guitar,
the Taylor's (my in-laws) for providing the caravan,
Philly and Sharn for finding the drum kit that I used on the side of the road,
and to all the legends who recorded with me.
